Maria Thattil has shared details of her hospital stay as she battles viral gastroenteritis.

The Former Miss Universe Australia posted to Instagram on Friday to explain she had been hospitalised with the illness.  

'Now that it's over,I can laugh… but after a week in hospital I'm finally going home!' the 31-year-old wrote alongside a video from her stay. 

'This last week,I have been the most unwell that I've ever been with viral gastroenteritis' she continued. 

'I didn't sleep a wink most nights,it's been painful,depleting and it's absolutely taken from me'. 

Maria said however that she is 'leaving with an appreciation for a few main things' including her health and family. 

'I take it for granted too often and I don't want to anymore. I've missed walking,eating,exercising and I'm excited to experience life in the body I've been gifted with a renewed perspective' she said. 

The model also praised,'loved ones who cared for me in this awful,sick state. No matter how gross I felt,they didn't shy away from loving me.'

Fortunately,Maria's AFLW star girlfriend Moana Hope (right) was able to cheer her up by visiting her in the hospital and posing for a precious selfie alongside her

Maria captioned the photo with some amusing words: 'Moana has a video of me immediately after surgery. I'm going to wait until I can have popcorn to watch it.'

In March,Thattil revealed that while she is open about her new romance with Moana,there are some things she prefers to keep private to protect her growing relationship.

The stunning model is dating AFLW star Moana Hope and the pair have been at many red carpet events and seen cuddling up on social media.

But she told Stellar Magazine that there is a limit to what she will share with the public.

'Something I've learnt is the importance of protecting certain parts of your life and keeping something sacred,' she said.

'In this digital world that we live in,strangers do feel entitled to you; sometimes they can have parasocial relationships where they feel entitled to ask me things.

'I always think to myself,these people would never walk up to you in the street and just,point-blank,to your face,ask you this stuff. And I feel like I don't want that undue pressure' she added. 

The couple have been dating for several months following Hope's split from her ex-wife, Isabella Carlstrom.
